After weathering years of budget cuts, local schools and colleges give California Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposed new budget improved grades for better funding.

In short, community colleges, and schools in the California State University and University of California system say, if Brown’s draft plan is any indication, the funding tide has changed from less to more. The 2013-14 draft budget was released Thursday.

“It’s definitely a good first step in restoring the future of California and it’s good to see the governor’s commitment to higher education,” said California Maritime Academy teacher union chapter president Scott Saarheim.
