The Reporter: Solano County’s Youth Ag Day provides roots of understanding

Vallejo third-grader Utkarsh Berry took a long time examining a display on “slow food” Tuesday at the Solano County Fairgrounds before giving the movement — an antidote to processed, fast food — a big thumbs up.

The Glen Cove Elementary student was one of thousands at Tuesday’s 11th annual Youth Ag Day at the fairgrounds. It’s an event to teach youth about where their food originates.

“I love spaghetti,” the boy finally declared, to which slow food advocate Anne Smith of Fairfield replied, “Yes, and it’s good if made with homegrown tomatoes.”
