Vallejo school board names two parents to taskforce – Times Herald

By John Glidden

A newly formed City-Schools Taskforce gained two new members during the Vallejo school board meeting Wednesday night.

The board, minus absent board President Raymond Mommsen, unanimously selected Vallejo residents, Channa Booker, and Debora Castaneda — who were also both absent during the meeting — to serve as parent representatives on the 10-person committee.

The taskforce was recently formed to discuss community issues impacting schools, and school issues impacting the community.

The idea behind the taskforce gained traction last year after several violent incidents occurred at Vallejo’s schools, including the May 2015 shooting death of Jesse Bethel High School student Max Rusk.
