Vanden youth program receives grant support – Daily Republic

By Daily Republic Staff

The Solano County Office of Education’s Youth Development Services has been awarded a grant to support Friday Night Live youth leaders at Vanden High School in support of campaigns aimed at combating underage drinking.

The grant will give local youth opportunities to lead projects that will actively engage their peers, family members and community members in reducing underage drinking and the issues that result from such behavior, according to a Solano County Office of Education press release.

Vanden High’s Friday Night Live members participated in Roadwatch, an annual observational survey, as a prerequisite for obtaining the funds. For a one-hour period in October, Vanden Friday Night Live participants observed incidents of distracted driving near Vanden High School’s entrances and parking lots, ranging from talking and texting on cellphones to eating, drinking and personal grooming.
