Running long distances is Brendan Erwin’s specialty for the Armijo High cross country and track teams.

He won’t have to run a long distance to go to college, but he will have to travel a long distance, having signed a national letter of intent inside E. Gary Vaughn Gymnasium, Friday, to the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, Kan., on a full-ride scholarship.

Erwin didn’t choose the Spires because the campus is more than 1,700 miles away, though. In fact, he chose them because life after athletics is just as important as being a student-athlete.
