FAIRFIELD — In a series of votes spread over a three-hour meeting Tuesday, the Fairfield-Suisun School District board set the foundation for an ambitious plan to switch its election system.
Voters within the school district currently elect trustees in an at-large system that allows voters to vote for all candidates. The district is switching to by-area elections, a process in which the district is carved into seven areas and candidates run for seats in their area and are elected by voters in that area.
