NELL DaSILVA REMEMBERS when she was called by an employee at Mary Farmar Elementary School and asked if she could come in and help tutor some of the pupils, particularly those in first through third grades.

That was the beginning of a 34-year career with the school. Before she retired two years ago, DaSilva became the school’s office manager.
