People are coming out in droves since Sullivan Middle School was targeted for closure by the Fairfield-Suisun School Board.
That’s to be expected. Closing a school is never a popular decision. If it had been a different school — or two — named for closure, I expect we’d see similar efforts to overturn those decisions.
As David DeBolt has reported, the school board voted in February to close an elementary school and a middle school to help close a $6.5 million budget hole for the coming school budget year, which begins July 1. An eleventh-hour option devised by the district’s administration called for closing just a middle school, and Sullivan fell victim to the latest budget ax.
