This summer’s about more than lemonade stands and swimming lessons for two Vallejo youngsters, who are also learning a valuable lesson in philanthropy.
With encouragement from their moms, best friends Josh Billbury and Devin Mertens — who, for the record, prefer to be called “brothers” — have launched a community service project collecting donated jeans for kids in need.
“Well, we’re doing it for the kids that don’t have any jeans,” 7-year-old Josh said. “We donate them to those kids who don’t have any jeans and then, well …”
“Then in the summer they have jeans!” added 6-year-old Devin, finishing Josh’s sentence.
