Vallejo Times-Herald: Vallejo boys helping kids this summer by collecting used jeans

By Tony Burchyns

This summer’s about more than lemonade stands and swimming lessons for two Vallejo youngsters, who are also learning a valuable lesson in philanthropy.

With encouragement from their moms, best friends Josh Billbury and Devin Mertens — who, for the record, prefer to be called “brothers” — have launched a community service project collecting donated jeans for kids in need.

“Well, we’re doing it for the kids that don’t have any jeans,” 7-year-old Josh said. “We donate them to those kids who don’t have any jeans and then, well …”

“Then in the summer they have jeans!” added 6-year-old Devin, finishing Josh’s sentence.
