Vallejo Times-Herald: Vallejo High School graduates reflect on Hogan, future

Vallejo High School’s graduating class this year is like a family — albeit one with a bit of lingering sibling rivalry.

“I’m here representing Hogan High School, which we all know sadly closed its doors. But I’m also here representing Vallejo High School, which opened its doors with a warm smile,” said Laura Ventura, who shares the valedictorian honors with Meredith Watkins.

About 400 students received their diplomas Wednesday night from Vallejo High School. The ceremony included a presentation of a wreath to the girls basketball team, still reeling from the loss of former coach and slain police Officer Jim Capoot in the line of duty in November.

Many of Wednesday’s graduates, like Ventura, began their high school careers at Hogan High School, which closed last year due to the Vallejo City Unified School District’s declining enrollment.
