The Vallejo school board unanimously approved the renewal of the Vallejo Charter School on Wednesday night after a lengthy discussion about the nature of the petition.”We wish to be crew in this district, not passengers,” said Elizabeth Mathern, a founder and a member of the charter school’s council.

Vallejo City Unified School District staff expressed several concerns about the proposed charter and attached agreement, which they said would establish a new special education entity for the school and would move it away from its current status as a dependent charter school, among other issues.

“It’s like a B+. There are some problems with it,” said board President Adrienne Waterman, whose children attend the charter school.
