FAIRFIELD — Save Our Athletic Programs is under new management. The nonprofit that formed in 2010 to save high school sports in the Fairfield-Suisun School District, raised thousands of dollars in its first two years and crept to a slow death this year, will now be run by students.
And the students hope to bring it under the umbrella of the Matt Garcia Foundation.
“I don’t want it to fall apart like it did,” said Dwight Lundy, an Armijo High School alumnus.
Lundy is on the five-person board with high school students from Armijo. The group held a car wash Sunday, raising $1,179. The students and Lundy hope to expand the board, with two representatives from each of Fairfield’s three high schools. Lundy wants the organization to be a branch of the Matt Garcia Foundation so SOAP can hold bigger events and raise more money.
