Vallejo Times-Herald: Four Vallejo schools now ringing dinner bells

By Lanz Christian BaƱes

Starting today four Vallejo schools will offer free dinner for students.

“We plan to serve just under 500 (students) to begin with,” said Kerri Braverman, director of student nutrition for the Vallejo City Unified School District.

Dinner (or “supper” as the federal government calls it) is an expansion of an existing federal program that pays for districts to serve snacks in their after-school programs.

The district is piloting dinner at four of its five full-service community schools: Loma Vista Environmental Science Academy, Elsa Widenmann Elementary School, Solano Middle School and Jesse Bethel High School.
