Vallejo Times-Herald: Solano Community College moves forward with solar panels thanks to loan

Let the sunshine in — that’s the plan for Solano Community College which has embarked on a plan to outfit its campuses with solar energy panels.

Solano College has received a $12.3 million loan after bidding for unused federal funs from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, said Yulian Ligioso, vice president of finance and administration.

As part of a collaborative effort, Solano County will issue Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds to pay for the solar panels to be installed on the Fairfield, Vallejo and Vacaville campuses.

The solar panel canopies will be placed over parking lots, much like the canopy installed at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo, Ligioso said.
