Students, particularly those from Benicia Middle School, often use Southampton Shopping Center as a gathering site after classes end each Friday.
But the Benicia City Council-School Board Liaison Committee heard last week that shoppers’ main concern about the children is that they congregate in large numbers.
“We discourage kids from going there,” Benicia Unified School District Superintendent Janice Adams said, adding that school staff sometimes visits the plaza to tell students to leave.
“They’re seen as a nuisance,” Adams said.
