Dixon Tribune’s Facebook Wall: Grant allows Dixon Unified to serve dinner

For many children in Dixon, the time between lunch at school and dinner at home can be a long, hungry wait, especially for those students in families that struggle financially just to put food on the table.

Dixon Unified hopes to reach out to those children this fall, by providing them with a balanced, healthy meal that will also ideally fuel their desire to learn. The district recently received a federally-funded grant to launch an After School Dinner program at Anderson Elementary and Gretchen Higgins Elementary, the two schools in town that house the Project ASPIRE after school program. The district hopes to start serving dinner to the students in Project ASPIRE the week of Oct. 8.
