Vallejo schools will get a boost this year — and perhaps a visit from a NASA official — thanks to a $20,000 grant secured by a local women’s group.
“The reason we got (the grant) is because we have been working with students every year that we’ve had a chapter,” said Elissa Shanks Stewart, grant project chairperson for the Solano County Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, which was founded in 1994.
The “STEM-ulating Left Brain and Right Brain” grant, given to the local chapter by the national Links Foundation, Incorporated, is meant to support STEM education. The acronym stands for “science, technology, engineering and mathematics” and has become a focus of recent education reforms, including at the Vallejo City Unified School District.
