Vallejo Times-Herald: State report: Vallejo schools’ fiscal powers should be restored

By Lanz Christian BaƱes/Times-Herald staff writer/

A key state assessment team has recommended the return of financial management to the Vallejo City Unified School District, paving the way for the restoration of full local governance.

The Fiscal Crisis & Management Assistance Team will tell state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson that the district is ready to regain control of its treasury.

It will be Torlakson’s decision whether to approve the recommendation. Torlakson was in the state Senate when the Legislature approved a $60 million loan to the struggling district and placed it under receivership.
