Geography is more than just about maps; it is a rich subject, a descriptive science about the surface of Earth, with its divisions into continents and countries, and their climates, plants, animals, natural resources, mountain ranges, rivers, oceans and seas, etc.
But even as the nation’s 2010 geography report card, the National Assessment of Educa-tional Progress, showed only 20 percent to 25 percent of American students to be proficient in geography, it is vital to knowing about and understanding the links between a 21st-century global economy, the environment and the world’s many different cultures.
