Vacaville Unified School District’s 16 schools will be updating their emergency response plans — from fire and earthquake to intruder and shooter drills — in the coming days and weeks.
Each school has a safety plan and each year it is updated and approved by a safety committee or school site council, the latter a state-mandated group typically made up of teachers, parents, community members, school staff and the principal.
Normally, they coordinate their emergency response plans with Vacaville Police Department officials, noted Superintendent John Niederkorn in wide-ranging remarks about school safety at the Jan. 17 district governing board meeting.
