The Reporter Letter: Vacation is least of Travis schools’ issues

Jeanette Wylie, president, Travis Unified Teachers Association, Vacaville

On behalf of Travis teachers, I must assure a letter writer (“Speak up about Travis Unified school calendar,” March 3) that “something as minor as calendar” would neverbe “the reason for a teachers’ strike.”

The writer urges parents to attend the next TUSD board meeting, but fails to mention other significant calendar issues:

Parents attending the board meeting should question why students still suffer a shortened school year, especially as surrounding school districts have restored furlough days. Please tell board members that Travis students deserve a full 180 instructional days.
