The Vallejo school board on Wednesday night approved the lowest number of potential certificated layoffs in years.
“I think this is the lowest number of layoffs that I have had to deal with as president (of the Vallejo Education Association),” said Christal Watts, who has led the teachers’ union for the last four years.
The board voted unanimously to eliminate the equivalent of more than 46 full-time positions, a far cry from the hundreds of certificated positions notified in the last few years when state coffers were in red ink.
