The Reporter Editorial: School districts finally improve financial outlook

There was a bit of good news to be found this week in an otherwise obscure bi-annual report from the California Department of Education: Solano County school districts seem to be getting a handle on their finances.

In fact, more schools throughout the state have stabilized their fiscal pictures, according to State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, who released the report.

Twice a year, school districts are required to certify with the state that they can meet their financial obligations for the current school year, as well as for the next two. Those that can are said to have a “positive” certification.
