The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and I am sure that the American Civil Liberties Union had good intentions when they sued over school fees.

Especially since the Great Recession started, school fees have been overused and occasionally abused by school districts. Students in some elementary classes were given a list of required supplies that could cost up to $100. Some required classes in high schools, such as biology or PE, have charged equipment fees.
