Eight years, nine months and 17 days.
That’s how much time has passed since Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill stripping the Vallejo City Unified School District governing board’s powers after gross fiscal mismanagement led to one of the largest school bailouts in California history.
The ensuing years were tough, as state and local officials tried to rebuild “from the bottom up” not just a district in chaos, but also public trust in one of city’s oldest and most important institutions.
