Daily Republic: Nursing students protest Solano College schedule change

FAIRFIELD — A grievance between nursing faculty at Solano Community College and the college district was brought to the forefront Wednesday as numerous nursing students protested at the governing board meeting.

A dozen nursing students plus family members protested before the meeting about an extra day added to the fall class schedule.

Nursing students currently attend classes and do on-site hospital clinicals Monday through Thursday. The fifth day – a Friday – would cause a hardship to students, adding to day care and commuting costs – some live out of the area – plus disrupting work schedules, said second-year nursing student Denise Barandas in an earlier interview Wednesday.
