The Vallejo school board on Wednesday will begin approving its first budget since emerging from state receivership earlier this year.
Though State Administrator Richard Damelio had kept the school board involved during his nine-year tenure, he had ultimate say over the Vallejo City Unified School District’s spending plan since 2004.
Damelio retired in April, after State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson fully restored local governance to the school board.
