Daily Republic: Armijo’s Julie Vasquez triumphs over learning disability, anxiety

FAIRFIELD — Olga Vasquez was told not to expect much from her daughter, Julianna Vasquez.

“When she was tested at 4 or 5, they told me, ‘it was about as good as it gets,’ ” she said.

Her daughter’s verbal skills were limited. While the toddler was happy, she wasn’t social.

Then one day, Julianna, now 17, who goes by the name Julie, picked up the newspaper and began to read and speak. She hasn’t stopped.
