Daily Republic: Fairfield High student never gave up goal of graduating

FAIRFIELD — While most students were struggling to fit in and learn the ropes of high school, Fairfield High School’s Price Wheeler was battling leukemia.

The 18-year-old missed most of his sophomore year, struggling through sickness and weakness. He said the first year of normalcy was his senior year, when he finally started communicating more and getting used to being around crowds.

Getting treatment and being confined to his house for months didn’t keep him down as he graduated June 7 as the No Excuses University award winner. Wheeler said he’s had to work extra hard to make up the work he missed, but it was all worth it.
