Empower Yourself forum geared toward young black teens – The Reporter

By Richard Bammer

Geared for black teens, a free forum open to the public, themed around what young people should do if stopped by a police officer, will be held Monday in the Rodriguez High School library in Fairfield.

Dubbed Empower Yourself: Know Your Rights, the 90-minute discussion begins at 7 p.m. at the 5000 Red Top Road campus.

The sponsor is the Sonoma Valley alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, a sorority of college-educated women dedicated to public service, with an emphasis on programs meant for black Americans.

The goal for the event, with the sorority partnering with the Willie B. Adkins Scholars Program of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, is to air constructive dialogue that is informative and educational about what black teens may encounter while walking or driving in public.
