Program gives students a chance to mingle with peers – Daily Republic

Confusion and disbelief were seen on several middle school students’ faces in Elizabeth Allan’s personal development class Monday at the Public Service Academy when they learned their peers in Japan cleaned their school after a full day of classroom learning.

They have no custodians, said Arletta Cortright, the chairman of the Fairfield-Nirasaki Sister City Program.

She, along with Fairfield-Suisun School District Trustee Pat Shamansky and sister city committee member Steve Vancil, joined six uniform-clad Nirasaki school students, age 14 through 18, and their chaperone, Tomoko Yokoyama, as they began a week of visits to local schools and universities.
