The Benicia Unified School District (BUSD) honored 24 new retirees and numerous years-of-service award recipients at a luncheon at Benicia High School on May 13. Two teachers were honored for both the 35-years-of-service mark and their 2016 retirement from the district, namely Deborah Casey and Michael Mullikin. Casey taught math at Benicia Middle School, and Mullikin taught first grade at Matthew Turner Elementary School. Suzanne Huddleston, who taught computer skills at all four elementary schools, was also recognized for 35 years of service.
In addition to the above-mentioned two, the following BUSD employees will retire this year: Nikki Askham, Marie Barde, Ester Bauzon, Joe Chavez, Teresa Chavez, Roberto Coronado, Alfreda Cubit, Diann Danska, Robin Dutrow, Mary Ann Fink, Vivian Foley, Anne Henly, Barbara Jossey, Ann Kulka, Mike Lewenson, Suzette Mehl, Debbie Morrison, Suzanna Sally, Maria Sankaran, Tony Stallings, Patricia Thrift and Sue Welty.
