Heat can’t stifle Fairfield High grad festivities – Daily Republic

Many of the guest speakers who addressed the crowd gathered at Fairfield High School’s 49th Commencement Exercise on Friday at Schaefer Stadium spoke about the certainty of adversity and of things not going as planned.

Such was the case with the weather for the graduation, with temperatures hitting 99 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, as the procession of graduates filtered into the stadium to begin the commencement and topping the century mark as they received their diplomas.

As the speakers further mentioned, it is the response to adversity that really matters and that was on full display, with the high school providing free water, fans, pop-up shade structures and even shaved ice vendors to help keep the guests as cool and refreshed as possible in the sweltering conditions.
