Kairos leader concedes recruiting low-income, racially diverse students “a challenge” – The Reporter

The leader of Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy, in his annual update for the K-8 independent charter school, acknowledged the Elm Street campus, which he co-founded several years ago, needs to be more racially and ethnically diverse.

As he did during last year’s update, Jared Austin recounted how he had gone “door to door” in the surrounding neighborhoods, generally considered low-income sectors of Vacaville, trying to interest families in enrolling their young children in the school.

But, he told the four trustees who attended the meeting Thursday night in the Educational Services Center, recruiting low-income students of color and English language learners has been a challenge.
