Veteran Solano educator takes reins at county schools office – Daily Republic

Lisette Estrella-Henderson remembers wanting to be a teacher at a young age, but was not certain how to get there.

Her father was career military, which is how Estrella-Henderson arrived in Solano County at age 10, and her mother did not get her high school diploma until she was 40. That family trail had not been blazed.

Estrella-Henderson said counselors at Solano Community College set her on her career path, and more than 30 years later, newly elected state Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, administered Estrella-Henderson’s oath of office Monday  as the 23rd Solano County superintendent of schools.

“I have spent my entire educational career in Solano County,” Estrella-Henderson said in a phone interview prior to the ceremony, which took place at the Office of Education on Business Center Drive in Fairfield.
