Vallejo High School Athletic Director Josh Ramos said it dawned on him during basketball season this year that an empty planter in front of Bottari Gym would be the perfect spot to plant a tree and install a plaque in honor of fallen Vallejo Police Officer Jim Capoot.

That tree — a crepe myrtle — was planted Wednesday and the plaque presented to Capoot’s widow Jennifer and other family members at a ceremony on campus.
