Before most high school athletic games begin, the Star Spangled Banner is played. Whether or not a Simon and Garfunkel feel — think sounds of silence — will soon follow the National Anthem is still up in the air.

Fans may be absent from some contests in the future due to the coronavirus, which has now infected more than 1,000 people in the United States, killing 36.

The World Health Organization declared the virus a “pandemic” during a news conference in Geneva Wednesday.
