The Travis Unified School District will be talking about the installation of perimeter fence around Vanden High School, Golden West Middle School and Travis Education Center at the Tuesday board meeting.

Gabe Moulaison, chief business officer, will be giving the report.

The estimated financial impact would be about $1.2 million for the fencing and work, according to the staff report.

Also to be discussed is the possibility of adding a public information officer position.

Travis school board OKs advance of $5.7M to cover bridge loan option – Daily Republic

Travis School District trustees approved a request Tuesday at the Solano County Board of Supervisors meeting to authorize the county treasurer to transfer approximately $5.7 million in one or more loans to the school district.

Gabe Moulaison, chief business officer, gave made the presentation to the board.

“Every year we have to pass this resolution,” he said. “We have plenty of reserves but we are asking for this in case later in the year that is not the case.”

Travis school board to consider teachers’ association negotiations – Daily Republic

Travis School District trustees will give the public a chance Tuesday to comment on the initial proposal for the Travis Unified Teachers’ Association contract for 2023-2024. The board is then scheduled to vote on the proposal.

Negotiations cover salary and benefits along with elementary preparation/planning, common planning days and adjunct duty.

The district proposes to explore current needs related to elementary preparation and common planning time, and to negotiate necessary amendments, according to a staff report. The district also proposes to explore new and different options relative to adjunct duty time and to negotiate necessary amendments in order to serve the best interests of students and operational needs.

Trustees to ask county for $5.7M bridge loan to cover Travis School District expenses – Daily Republic

Travis School District trustees are scheduled to consider a request Tuesday of the Solano County Board of Supervisors to authorize the county treasurer to transfer approximately $5.7 million in one or more loans to the school district.

The loans would cover what the staff report describes as one or more cash shortages caused by delays in payments from the state.

The amount is less than or equal to the 85% of fiscal year 2023-24 anticipated property tax revenues for the district, as estimated by the Solano County auditor, according to a staff report.

Travis school board set to start recording, streaming meetings – Daily Republic

Travis School District trustees will soon move into the computer age with a live streaming of meetings.

The board on Tuesday approved the purchase of cameras and equipment to begin live streaming the meetings.

Superintendent Pam Conklin reported the board had expressed an interested in getting information on how much it would cost to live stream the meetings.

Travis trustees hear high, low points of student progress, well-being – Daily Republic

Trustees of the Travis School district last week received information about how students are faring both academically and socially, along with an update of what the district is doing to help both students and their parents.

Sue Brothers, assistant superintendent of Educational Studies, presented an update Tuesday on the midyear Local Control and Accountability Plan.

Brothers covered student performance and district progress on both school board goals and state-mandated Local Control and Accountability Plan goals in the areas of basic services, family involvement, student social-emotional wellness and academic achievement.

Travis School District trustees on Tuesday approved a change in the graduation requirements starting with the Class of 2024.

Specifically, the governing board removed the health course graduation requirement.

The reason the district was considering this change is because many students and families have stated the students wanted to take additional electives courses but the schedule didn’t allow for it, according to a staff report.

Tiffany Benson the director of Curriculum and Instruction, gave part of the presentation.

The Travis School District is looking to make a change to graduation requirements starting with the Class of 2024.

Specifically, the governing board on Tuesday will consider removing the health course graduation requirement.

The reason the district is considering this change is because many students and families have stated the students wanted to take additional electives courses but the schedule didn’t allow for it, according to a staff report. Removing this requirement will offer an opportunity for 11th grade students to take an additional class, including advanced studies and courses for remediation.

New board majority in place at Travis School District – Daily Republic

Three new trustees joined the five-member Travis School District governing board Tuesday and quickly shuffled roles.

Manveer Sandhu was selected to lead the newly constituted board as president. This is his first time serving as board president.

The district bid farewell to the former board president, Janet Jackson Forbes, giving her a vase of flowers and a plaque acknowledging her years presiding over school board meetings and serving the community.

New Travis trustees question board handbook restrictions – Daily Republic

Two new trustees at the Travis School District wasted little time Tuesday in placing their stamp on how the district is governed by questioning what could have been routine approval of the board’s Governance Handbook.

Matthew Bidou, who won his seat in the Nov. 8 election and was sworn into office Tuesday, questioned several parts of the handbook and wanted to discuss them further at a special study session meeting before he felt comfortable signing off on document.

Travis school board considers course changes, meeting dates for coming year – Daily Republic

Travis School District trustees will likely see some changes in the new year.

The board at Tuesday’s meeting will select a president, vice president and clerk. Trustees will also will select representatives to the Solano County School Boards Association and the Travis Regional Armed Forces Committee.

Superintendent Pam Conklin will serve as board secretary.

The changes will take effect immediately after the election.

Sarah Chapman retakes lead in District 4 election, other races remain same – The Vacaville Reporter

The race for Vacaville City Council District 4 continues to swing back and forth.

On Wednesday, realtor Kristen Navarro led in the race to succeed outgoing Councilman Nolan Sullivan after Solano Community College Board Trustee Sarah Chapman had an early lead on Election Night. However, with the latest batch of vote-by-mail ballots counted Thursday night, Chapman regained the top spot with 42.02% of the vote, giving her a 50-vote lead over Navarro, who has received 40.39% of the vote.

Reached by email earlier in the day in response to a previous request for comment, Chapman wrote that she and her team were monitoring the results and acknowledged that it was “incredibly tight.”

School board OKs Travis district’s updated financial report – Daily Republic

The Travis School District is holding its own financially amid declining enrollment projections, trustees were told this week in an update on the district’s budget.

Chief Business Officer Gabe Moulaison on Tuesday presented the school board with the 2022-23 First Interim Report and budget projections for the current school year.

The data was from July 1 through Oct. 31 with updates due to changes that were made after the Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 185, the Education Omnibus Trailer Bill that sets statewide school spending for the year.

Travis trustees hear update on finances of special tax districts – Daily Republic

Travis School District trustees heard an update Tuesday on two special tax districts that between them hold nearly $10 million in taxpayer money.

Chief Business Officer Gabe Moulaison gave the presentation on the Community Facilities Districts No. 1 and No. 2 Special Tax Annual Reports.

There are 1,775 residential parcels for which a building permit has been issued as of June 1 for Community Facilities District No. 1, according to the report.

Unofficial Solano election results are in; more to come – The Vacaville Reporter

Election Day has come and gone, but results for races in Solano County are not yet set.

Why? Because there’s still thousands of ballots left to count.

According to the Solano County Registrar of Voters office, outstanding Vote-by-Mail ballots total 35,821 while outstanding provisional ballots number 1,671.

On Wednesday, staff focused full bore on processing ballots. An estimated 15,000 were ready to be counted while 13,000 more were ready to be verified.

Schools election picture coming into focus after Day 2 of count – Daily Republic

Jack Flynn held a majority lead over incumbent Jonathan Richardson for the Trustee Area 5 seat on the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District board.

As of Wednesday, Flynn had tallied 963 votes, representing 51.5% of the ballots cast, while Richardson had 907 votes (48.5%), the Solano County Registrar of Voters Office reported.

The unofficial result is with all 10 precincts counted, but with mail-in and provisional ballots left to count.

Travis trustees OK 6.7% raise for teachers, most staff – Daily Republic

A new state law to change the start times for schools starting this academic year served as cover for 6.7% raises for most of the Travis School District’s workforce.

The district and its teachers union came to an agreement Sept. 30.

Trustees on Tuesday approved a memorandum or understanding with the Travis Unified Teachers Association.

The agreement stems from Senate Bill 328, which changed the start times for schools by 15 minutes. The teachers union requested a renegotiation of salaries because of the additional time teachers would need to be at school.

Travis board denies request to add slain student’s name to Vanden High’s Gammon Field – Daily Republic

Daniel Hughes’ name will not be added to Gammon Field at Vanden High School.

The decision was made Tuesday by the Travis School District governing board and follows the recommendation of a committee established to review the request.

Daniel Dejon Hughes, 17, was a junior at Vanden High when he was shot on Easter Sunday in 2021 and died 14 days later on April 18, 2021. The criminal case against the suspected shooter is making its way through the courts.

Travis School District seeks 1 person to flesh out board prior to election – Daily Republic

The Travis School District is looking for someone to represent Trustee Area 1 and Travis Air Force Base – and seeks to file the vacancy soon.

Three seats on the board were set for election as part of the Nov. 8 general election. No candidate filed for the Trustee Area 1 seat.

Since the deadline for candidates to file for this election has passed, this means there is a “failure to elect” a trustee to this seat, resulting in a vacancy, Superintendent Pam Conklin reports.
