Tonight, the Fairfield City Council will consider moving its municipal elections from odd-numbered years to even-numbered years and on Thursday the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Governing Board will consider doing the same.
Council and board members would be wise to put off this decision and seek more public input– even if it means missing a deadline that could make the change effective this year.
There is no reason to rush into this, but there are plenty of potential unintended consequences that might be avoided if the proposal had a fuller airing.
