After being denied entrance to her senior prom, a Dixon High School student and her mother are taking school officials to court to recoup expenses and compensation for emotional distress.

According to documents filed in Solano County Superior Court, Dixon resident Melody Williams and her daughter, Miranda, are taking Dixon Unified School District officials to small claims court in connection with an April incident at the school’s junior prom. The pair are seeking reimbursement for expenses incurred for a prom that Miranda didn’t attend.

The lawsuit stems from the school’s junior prom on April 28 at the Elks Tower in Sacramento.

The event made headlines regionally when 35 Dixon High School leadership students were denied entry to the prom after school officials found a water bottle onboard that allegedly contained alcohol.
