FAIRFIELD — The Nelda Mundy Elementary School campus echoed with sounds of drums beating, horns tooting, guitars strumming and voices singing.
The sounds, while not all in tune, were sweet — a couple of years ago those sounds would have been non-existent. Today, they are loud and plentiful and that’s thanks to the efforts of Music Matters.
Devastating budget cuts in 2010 eliminated all music education programs in elementary schools, shocking parents. One of those concerned parents, representing Nelda Mundy Elementary, brought the issue to the attention of the Young Artists Conservatory of Music in Vacaville. Parents and students wanted a program that could bring music back to schools without sky-high costs.
