Vallejo High School alumni on Wednesday pushed back against a recent school board decision to abandon the decades-old Apache mascot.

“Who would have ever thought that the board would take such action, unprecedented in its speed?” said Harry Diavatis, Class of 1962 and organizer of a crowd that overflowed the Vallejo City Unified School District board room.
