The Vacaville School District board of education agreed Thursday to receive applications for the position vacated last week upon the resignation of Trustee Jerry Eaton.

By law, the board has the choice of holding a special election or making a provisional appointment.

For the sake of “consistency,” Trustee Michael Kitzes said the board ought to follow the same procedure as was done when Larry Mazzuca left the board last August. The board collected 15 applications at the time – of which the board re-interviewed the remaining two of the top three candidates when Theresa Nutt resigned a month later. Both left because they moved out of the district.
