Organizers expect large Solano turnout for Bike to School Day – Daily Republic

Hundreds of local students are expected to strap on safety helmets and pedal to school Wednesday on National Bike to School Day, according to the Solano Transportation Authority’s Solano Safe Routes to School program.

The annual event focuses attention on the physical and environmental benefits of biking or walking to school instead of commuting by car, a program press release said.

Seventeen elementary and middle schools throughout the county have registered this year with Solano Safe Routes to School to promote Bike to School Day, an increase of 10 schools over the previous year, the release said.
