A Vacaville woman with considerable experience in marketing, graphic design, social media and media relations has been hired as a new public information officer for Vacaville Unified School District.

Jennifer Leonard will earn nearly $85,000 in annual salary, not including $100 per month as an expense stipend, and receive the health benefit package that is standard for district management employees.

Her appointment — coming at a time when U.S. school districts are increasingly hiring PIOs or public relations firms to improve media relations and public outreach — was announced publicly during the Dec. 10 governing board meeting. Leonard started in her new job Dec. 14 at the Educational Services Center, the district’s main office, on Nut Tree Road.
