When Solano residents awoke Monday morning it appeared as if the world was on fire, with eight surrounding counties including Napa and Sonoma ablaze with wildfires.

County Office of Emergency Services (OES) engines were deployed, the OES emergency operations center was activated, fire officials were on alert and the local Red Cross and Salvation Army crews headed out to emergency shelters, including the one at Solano Community College.

“It’s neighbor helping neighbor,” explained Vacaville Fire Chief Kris Concepcion.

High winds contributed to earlier fires throughout Vacaville, he said, and through the day, spot fires throughout the county.
