SCOE News and Announcements: Solano County Board of Education Moves Board Elections to Even-Numbered Years and Fills Trustee Area 3 Vacancy

In an effort to increase voter participation by consolidating with state and national ballot items, the Solano County Board of Education, at its March 6 special meeting, voted unanimously in favor of changing board member elections from odd- to even-numbered years.

Additionally, the Solano County Board of Education voted to appoint Ms. Dana Dean to the position of Trustee Area 3.

Daily Republic: Solano Board of Education switches to even-year elections

FAIRFIELD — The Solano County Board of Education voted unanimously Wednesday to change board member elections from to even-year voting in an effort to increase voter participation, according to a press release.

This decision follows the Fairfield City Council’s vote Tuesday to return to even-year elections. The switch will extend every Fairfield council members’ term by one year if approved by the Solano County Board of Supervisors.

FAIRFIELD — Add the Solano County Board of Education to the list of local elected bodies considering whether to move its elections from odd to even years.

The Board of Education governs the Solano County Office of Education. It will consider the matter when it meets at 1 p.m. Wednesday in its board room at 5100 Business Center Drive in Fairfield.

SCOE’s Facebook Wall: John Galvan, Solano County Board of Education Trustee Area 3, was honored

John Galvan, Solano County Board of Education Trustee Area 3, was honored with a proclamation by the SCOE Board of Education and Jay Speck, Solano County Superintendent of Schools at the Board’s regular meeting on February 13. The proclamation lists Mr. Galvan’s many accomplishments in education since 1962 –over 50 years! Mr. Galvan taught at Benicia High School, was principal at Liberty High School, and worked for the Benicia Unified School District as its technology coordinator.

Benicia Patch: Why Solano County Board of Education Trustee Galvan Resigned

After a life dedicated to education, John Galvan says he’s ready for a break.

The Solano County Board of Education Trustee announced plans to resign from his post representing Benicia and other areas, effective later this month.

When asked why he decided to resign, Galvan said he wants to retire and start checking items off his bucket list.

The Solano County Board of Education is seeking candidates to complete the term of Area 3 Trustee John Galvan, who resigned Jan. 9.

Galvan represented Benicia on the board. Area 3 also contains Glen Cove, parts of south Fairfield, Travis Air Force Base and Collinsville.
