When they meet tonight, Vacaville public school leaders will hear from two firms vying for a search contract to replace retired district Superintendent John Niederkorn.
Niederkorn, 63, announced his retirement last spring but agreed to continue working for Vacaville Unified, a 12,000-student district, drawing a nominal stipend of roughly $31,020, as allowed by law, as a way to save the district money while the executive search begins. It is a process that often takes months and is generally regarded as one of the most important decisions a school board can make.
A superintendent search firm typically develops, with community input, a personal and professional profile, locates candidates who match the profile, conducts in-depth reference checks, and works closely with school boards along the way, among other things.
