A review of 2015 local education news and a look-ahead reveals a common thread: School districts are experiencing increased budgets due largely to increased state tax revenues, resulting in more hiring and building — or plans for building or campus modernizations; and the fact that a majority area school students who took the new all-computerized state tests failed to meet standards in math and English.
But, for a time, stories out of Dixon Unified, unfortunately casting a negative light on the small, rural district, rose to the top of the headline heap.
Nearing the end of the 2014-15 year, Dixon High School made national news after an 18-year-old student was arrested on suspicion of altering a computer data system, a felony, in connection with more than 200 grade changes for more than 30 students at the school.
